ସ୍ଥାନ ଓ ସମୟ / Place and time
ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଲୋକକଥାର ଗାଁବାଟ ଓ ବାଟୋଇଙ୍କ ବିଶ୍ରାମ ସ୍ଥାନ। ଅବୋଲକରା ଓ ତାଙ୍କ ଜ୍ଞାନୀ ମାଲିକଙ୍କ ଚରିତ୍ର ପାରମ୍ପରିକ; ଏହି ପର୍ବର ଘଟଣା ଓ ସଂଳାପ ଏହି ପ୍ରକଳ୍ପର ନୂଆ ରଚନା। କୌଣସି ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦିଷ୍ଟ ଲେଖକଙ୍କ ଗପର ଅନୁବାଦ ନୁହେଁ। ସାଆନ୍ତ ଏଠାରେ ସମ୍ବୋଧନ, ବ୍ୟକ୍ତିଗତ ନାମ ନୁହେଁ। ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦିଷ୍ଟ ଶତାବ୍ଦୀ, ଗାଁ, ଜାତି ବା ଅବୋଲକରାର ବୟସ ଧାର୍ଯ୍ୟ ହୋଇନାହିଁ।
Village paths and travellers’ resting places in a folktale Odisha. Abolakara and his learned master are traditional figures; the events and dialogue of this episode are newly written for this project, not a translation of a particular author’s story. Saanta is a form of address here, not a personal name. No exact century, village, caste or age for Abolakara is assigned.

ଭାବର ପରିବର୍ତ୍ତନ / The performance turn

ପୋଷାକ ଓ ଚଳନ / Clothing and movement
ପୂର୍ବ ଚରିତ୍ର ଅଧ୍ୟୟନ ସହ ମେଳ: ଅବୋଲକରାର ସରୁ ଦେହ, ଅସଜଡ଼ା କେଶ, ସାଧା ହଳଦିଆ ଛୋଟ ହାତର ଜାମା, ଆଣ୍ଠୁ ପାଖେ ଖୋସା କ୍ରିମ୍ ଧୋତି, ଡାହାଣ କାନ୍ଧରେ ନୀଳ କପଡ଼ା ଓ ଚପଲ। ସାଆନ୍ତଙ୍କ ପାଚିଆ ପତଳା କେଶ, ଛୋଟ ନିଶ, କ୍ରିମ୍ ଜାମା, ଲମ୍ବା ଧୋତି ଓ ବାମ କାନ୍ଧରେ ସରୁ ଧାରର ଚାଦର। ବସିବାବେଳେ ଧୋତିର କୁଞ୍ଚ ବଦଳିବ; କାନ୍ଧର ପଟ ବଦଳିବନି। ଗୋଟିଏ ପୁଟୁଳି, ଗୋଟିଏ ଆସନ ଓ ଗୋଟିଏ ବାଉଁଶ ବେଣ୍ଟର ଛତା। ପୋଷାକ ଏହି ପ୍ରକଳ୍ପର ବ୍ୟାଖ୍ୟା; ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦିଷ୍ଟ କାଳର ପ୍ରମାଣିତ ପୁନର୍ନିର୍ମାଣ ନୁହେଁ।
Continue the earlier character study: lean, unruly-haired Abolakara in a plain ochre short-sleeved top, cream dhoti tucked near the knees, blue cloth over his anatomical right shoulder and sandals. Saanta has thinning grey hair, a small moustache, a cream short-sleeved top, long dhoti and a narrow-bordered cloth over his anatomical left shoulder. Seated folds change; shoulder sides do not. One bundle, one mat and one bamboo-handled umbrella. These are project interpretations, not authenticated reconstructions of a particular period.

ପ୍ରତି ଦୃଶ୍ୟରେ ମେଳ / Continuity between shots
ପୁଟୁଳିରେ ଶୁଖିଲା ଚୁଡ଼ା, ଦୁଇଟି ସଫା ପତ୍ର ଉପରେ। କେହି ଖାଇସାରିଥିବା ଖାଦ୍ୟ ଅନ୍ୟଜଣଙ୍କ ଭାଗକୁ ଫେରାନ୍ତିନି। ସମାନ ଭାଗ ଏଠାରେ ଦୁହିଁଙ୍କ ଆଲୋଚନା; ପାରମ୍ପରିକ ପ୍ରଥା ବୋଲି ଦାବି ନୁହେଁ।
Dry chuda from the bundle, on two clean leaves. No food already eaten from is returned to the other portion. This is a conversation between these two, not a claim about a traditional custom.

ଅବୋଲକରା ଦୁଇ ପତ୍ରରେ ଚୁଡ଼ା ରଖେ। ଗୋଟିଏ ଭାଗରୁ ଆଉ ଗୋଟିଏକୁ ଅଳ୍ପ ଘୁଞ୍ଚାଏ।
Abolakara puts flattened rice on two leaves, shifting a little between the portions.
ଧ୍ୱନି / Sound: ଶୁଖିଲା ଚୁଡ଼ା ଓ ପତ୍ରର ଶବ୍ଦ। / Dry rice and leaf rustles.
ସାଆନ୍ତ: ଦୁଇଟି ସମାନ ଭାଗ କର।
Saanta: Make two equal portions.
ଅବୋଲକରା: ସମାନ ହେଉନି।
Abolakara: They won’t come out equal.

ଦୃଶ୍ୟ 2 · 12–26 ସେକେଣ୍ଡ / Scene 2 · 12–26 seconds
ଅବୋଲକରା ଗୋଟିଏ ଦାନା ଘୁଞ୍ଚାଇ ପୁଣି ଚାହେଁ। ସାଆନ୍ତ ଖାଦ୍ୟଠାରୁ ତା’ ମୁହଁକୁ ଚାହାନ୍ତି।
Abolakara moves one flake and studies the portions again. Saanta looks from the food to his face.
ଧ୍ୱନି / Sound: ଛୋଟ ବିରାମ। / A small pause.
ସାଆନ୍ତ: ଭୋକ କେତେ?
Saanta: How hungry are you?
ଅବୋଲକରା: ବହୁତ। ହେଲେ ତୁମ ଭାଗ…
Abolakara: Very. But your share…

ଦୃଶ୍ୟ 3 · 26–40 ସେକେଣ୍ଡ / Scene 3 · 26–40 seconds
ସାଆନ୍ତ ନିଜ ପାଇଁ ଛୋଟ ଭାଗଟି ଦେଖାନ୍ତି। ଅବୋଲକରାର ହାତ ଥାମେ।
Saanta indicates the smaller portion for himself. Abolakara stops adjusting the food.
ଧ୍ୱନି / Sound: ପତ୍ରର ଶବ୍ଦ ଥାମେ। / The leaf rustle stops.
ସାଆନ୍ତ: ମୋତେ ଏତିକି ହେବ। ତୁ ଆଗରୁ କହିଲୁନି କାହିଁକି?
Saanta: This will do for me. Why didn’t you say so?
ଅବୋଲକରା: ତୁମେ ସମାନ କହିଥିଲ।
Abolakara: You said equal.

ଦୃଶ୍ୟ 4 · 40–56 ସେକେଣ୍ଡ / Scene 4 · 40–56 seconds
ସାଆନ୍ତ ମୁଣ୍ଡ ହଲାଇ ହସନ୍ତି। ଅବୋଲକରା ଦୁଇ ଭାଗ ଅଲଗା ରଖେ; ଗଣିବା ଛାଡ଼େ।
Saanta nods with a smile. Abolakara sets the portions apart and stops counting.
ଧ୍ୱନି / Sound: ନରମ ହସ, ତା’ପରେ ଖାଇବାର ଶାନ୍ତି। / A soft laugh, then a quiet meal.
ସାଆନ୍ତ: ହଁ, କହିଥିଲି। ଭୋକଟା ପଚାରିନଥିଲି।
Saanta: Yes, I did. I hadn’t asked about your hunger.
ଅବୋଲକରା: ଏବେ ଖାଇବା?
Abolakara: Shall we eat now?
