ସ୍ଥାନ ଓ ସମୟ / Place and time
ଆଜିର ଓଡ଼ିଶାର ଏକ କାଳ୍ପନିକ ଛୋଟ ସହର ଓ ପାଖ ଗାଁ। ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦିଷ୍ଟ ଜିଲ୍ଲା ଧାର୍ଯ୍ୟ ନାହିଁ। ଏଗାର ବର୍ଷର ବେଣୁ ଓ ତା’ ବାପାଙ୍କ ସାନଭାଇ, ବାଉନ ବର୍ଷର ମାଧବ କକା। ମାଧବ ପୂର୍ବରୁ ପାଠାଗାର ସହାୟକ ଥିଲେ।
A fictional present-day Odisha town and neighbouring villages; no exact district is assigned. Eleven-year-old Benu and his father’s younger brother, fifty-two-year-old Madhab Kaka, a former library assistant.

ପୋଷାକ ଓ ଚଳନ / Clothing and movement
ବେଣୁର ଢିଲା ସବୁଜ ଛୋଟ ହାତର ସାର୍ଟ, ବାମ ଛାତି ପକେଟ୍‌ରେ ଛୋଟ ଖାତା, ବାଦାମୀ ହାଫ୍ ପ୍ୟାଣ୍ଟ ଓ ଚପଲ। ମାଧବଙ୍କ କ୍ରିମ୍ ସୂତା କୁର୍ତ୍ତାର ହାତ ମୋଡ଼ା; ସାଧା ଧୋତିରେ ସରୁ ମଳିନ ନୀଳ ଧାର। ବାମ କାନ୍ଧରେ ଇଟାଲାଲ ବହିଥଳି, ଡାହାଣ ହାତରେ ବନ୍ଦ ନୀଳ ଛତା। ବସିଲେ ଥଳି ଓ ଛତା ପାଖରେ ରଖିବେ। ଧୋତିର କୁଞ୍ଚ ଓ ତଳ ଧାର ବସିବା, ଚାଲିବାରେ ସ୍ୱାଭାବିକ ରହିବ। ଏହା ଚରିତ୍ରଙ୍କ ଦୈନିକ ପସନ୍ଦ; ଧାର୍ଯ୍ୟ ନଥିବା ଜିଲ୍ଲାର ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦିଷ୍ଟ ପୋଷାକ ବୋଲି ଦାବି ନାହିଁ।
Benu wears a loose green short-sleeved shirt, a pocket notebook at his left chest, brown shorts and sandals. Madhab wears a cream cotton kurta with rolled sleeves and a simply wrapped dhoti with a narrow dusty-blue border. Rust cloth book bag on his left shoulder; folded blue umbrella in his right hand. When seated, he sets both beside him. Keep the dhoti’s folds and hem plausible when sitting and walking. These are the characters’ everyday choices, not a claimed costume of an unassigned district.

ପ୍ରତି ଦୃଶ୍ୟରେ ମେଳ / Continuity between shots
ପାଠାଗାର ଅଗଣାରେ କାମ; ଚଳନ୍ତା ରାସ୍ତାରେ ନୁହେଁ। ମୁହାଁମୁହିଁ ସମୟରେ ଦୁହିଁଙ୍କ ନିଜ ବାମ ହାତ ବିପରୀତ ଦିଗ ଦେଖାଏ; ପାଖାପାଖି ହେଲେ ଏକା ଦିଗ। ଛତା ଓ ଥଳି ପ୍ରଥମରୁ ବେଞ୍ଚରେ ରହିବ।
Use the reading-room courtyard, away from moving traffic. Facing each other, their anatomical left hands point opposite ways; standing together, they point the same way. Umbrella and bag are on the bench from the start.

ବେଣୁ ଓ ମାଧବ ଅଗଣାରେ ମୁହାଁମୁହିଁ। ବେଣୁ ଗେଟ୍‌ର ବାଟ ପଚାରେ।
Benu and Madhab face each other in the courtyard. Benu asks the way to the gate.

ଦୃଶ୍ୟ 2 · 12–24 ସେକେଣ୍ଡ / Scene 2 · 12–24 seconds
ଦୁହେଁ ନିଜ ବାମ ହାତ ବଢ଼ାନ୍ତି। ଦୁଇ ବିପରୀତ ଦିଗ। ବେଣୁ ପ୍ରଥମେ ନିଜ ହାତ, ତା’ପରେ କକାଙ୍କ ହାତ ଦେଖେ।
Both raise their left hands, pointing opposite ways. Benu looks from his own hand to his uncle’s.
ଧ୍ୱନି / Sound: ଛୋଟ ବିରାମ। / A brief pause.
ବେଣୁ: ହେଲେ ତୁମେ ସେପଟକୁ ଦେଖାଉଛ!
Benu: But you’re pointing that way!

ଦୃଶ୍ୟ 3 · 24–38 ସେକେଣ୍ଡ / Scene 3 · 24–38 seconds
ବେଣୁ ନିଜ ହାତ ତଳକୁ କରି କକାଙ୍କ ପାଖରେ ଯାଇ ଠିଆହୁଏ। ଦୁହେଁ ଏବେ ଏକା ଆଡ଼କୁ ମୁହଁ କରିଛନ୍ତି। ସେ ପୁଣି ବାମ ହାତ ବଢ଼ାଏ।
Benu lowers his hand and steps beside Madhab. Now facing the same way, he raises his left hand again.
ଧ୍ୱନି / Sound: ଚପଲର ଦୁଇଟି ଶବ୍ଦ। / Two sandal steps.
ବେଣୁ: ଆଚ୍ଛା, ଏବେ ମିଶିଲା।
Benu: Ah, now they match.

ମାଧବ ଥଳି ଓ ଛତା ନିଅନ୍ତି। ବେଣୁ ତାଙ୍କ ପାଖରେ ରହି ଗେଟ୍ ଆଡ଼କୁ ଚାଲେ।
Madhab picks up the bag and umbrella. Benu stays beside him as they walk towards the gate.
ଧ୍ୱନି / Sound: ଥଳି ଉଠିବା, ଧୀର ପାଦଶବ୍ଦ। / Bag lifting, unhurried footsteps.
ମାଧବ କକା: ଏବେ ଗେଟ୍ ମିଳିବ ତ?
