ସ୍ଥାନ ଓ ସମୟ / Place and time
ଆଜିର ଓଡ଼ିଶାର ଏକ କାଳ୍ପନିକ ଛୋଟ ସହର ଓ ପାଖ ଗାଁ। ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦିଷ୍ଟ ଜିଲ୍ଲା ଧାର୍ଯ୍ୟ ନାହିଁ। ଏଗାର ବର୍ଷର ବେଣୁ ଓ ତା’ ବାପାଙ୍କ ସାନଭାଇ, ବାଉନ ବର୍ଷର ମାଧବ କକା। ମାଧବ ପୂର୍ବରୁ ପାଠାଗାର ସହାୟକ ଥିଲେ।
A fictional present-day Odisha town and neighbouring villages; no exact district is assigned. Eleven-year-old Benu and his father’s younger brother, fifty-two-year-old Madhab Kaka, a former library assistant.

ଭାବର ପରିବର୍ତ୍ତନ / The performance turn

ପୋଷାକ ଓ ଚଳନ / Clothing and movement
ବେଣୁର ଢିଲା ସବୁଜ ଛୋଟ ହାତର ସାର୍ଟ, ବାମ ଛାତି ପକେଟ୍‌ରେ ଛୋଟ ଖାତା, ବାଦାମୀ ହାଫ୍ ପ୍ୟାଣ୍ଟ ଓ ଚପଲ। ମାଧବଙ୍କ କ୍ରିମ୍ ସୂତା କୁର୍ତ୍ତାର ହାତ ମୋଡ଼ା; ସାଧା ଧୋତିରେ ସରୁ ମଳିନ ନୀଳ ଧାର। ବାମ କାନ୍ଧରେ ଇଟାଲାଲ ବହିଥଳି, ଡାହାଣ ହାତରେ ବନ୍ଦ ନୀଳ ଛତା। ବସିଲେ ଥଳି ଓ ଛତା ପାଖରେ ରଖିବେ। ଧୋତିର କୁଞ୍ଚ ଓ ତଳ ଧାର ବସିବା, ଚାଲିବାରେ ସ୍ୱାଭାବିକ ରହିବ। ଏହା ଚରିତ୍ରଙ୍କ ଦୈନିକ ପସନ୍ଦ; ଧାର୍ଯ୍ୟ ନଥିବା ଜିଲ୍ଲାର ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦିଷ୍ଟ ପୋଷାକ ବୋଲି ଦାବି ନାହିଁ।
Benu wears a loose green short-sleeved shirt, a pocket notebook at his left chest, brown shorts and sandals. Madhab wears a cream cotton kurta with rolled sleeves and a simply wrapped dhoti with a narrow dusty-blue border. Rust cloth book bag on his left shoulder; folded blue umbrella in his right hand. When seated, he sets both beside him. Keep the dhoti’s folds and hem plausible when sitting and walking. These are the characters’ everyday choices, not a claimed costume of an unassigned district.

ପ୍ରତି ଦୃଶ୍ୟରେ ମେଳ / Continuity between shots
ଏହା ମାଧବଙ୍କ କଳ୍ପିତ ଗପର ଅଭ୍ୟାସ; କୌଣସି ପ୍ରକାଶିତ ଗଳ୍ପର ହୁବହୁ ପାଠ ନୁହେଁ। ଦୁହେଁ ଖାଲି କାଠ ବେଞ୍ଚର ଧାରରେ ଆଙ୍ଗୁଠିର ଗଣ୍ଠିରେ ଠକ୍ କରିବେ। ପ୍ରକୃତ କବାଟରେ କେହି ଆସିବେନି। ଅତି ଜୋରରେ ହାତ ମାରିବା ନାହିଁ।
A rehearsal of Madhab’s invented tale, not verbatim text from a published work. Both tap the empty wooden bench edge with their knuckles. No real visitor appears at the door. Keep the tap light enough not to hurt a hand.

ମାଧବ ଗପ କହୁଥିବା ବେଳେ ବେଞ୍ଚ ଆଡ଼କୁ ହାତ ବଢ଼ାଇ ଥାମନ୍ତି। ବେଣୁ ଅପେକ୍ଷା କରେ।
Madhab reaches towards the bench during his tale, then stops. Benu waits.
ଧ୍ୱନି / Sound: ଅଧା କଥା ପରେ ନୀରବତା। / Silence after an unfinished line.
ମାଧବ କକା: ତା’ପରେ କବାଟରେ… ଶବ୍ଦଟା କେମିତି ଥିଲା?

ଦୃଶ୍ୟ 2 · 12–24 ସେକେଣ୍ଡ / Scene 2 · 12–24 seconds
ବେଣୁ ବେଞ୍ଚରେ ଦୁଇଟି ସ୍ପଷ୍ଟ ଠକ୍ କରେ। ମାଧବ ଶୁଣି ମୁଣ୍ଡ ଟିକେ କାତ କରନ୍ତି।
Benu gives the bench two clear taps. Madhab listens, tilting his head slightly.
ଧ୍ୱନି / Sound: ଦୁଇଟି ଠକ୍। / Two distinct taps.
ବେଣୁ: ଏମିତି?
Benu: Like that?
ମାଧବ କକା: ସେ ତ ଟିକେ ଲାଜ କରୁଥିଲା।
Madhab Kaka: They were feeling a little shy.

ଦୃଶ୍ୟ 3 · 24–38 ସେକେଣ୍ଡ / Scene 3 · 24–38 seconds
ମାଧବ ନିଜ ଗଣ୍ଠିରେ ବେଞ୍ଚକୁ ହାଲୁକା ଛୁଅନ୍ତି—ଦୁଇ ଠକ୍ ମଝିରେ ବିରାମ। ବେଣୁ ଶୁଣିବା ପାଇଁ ଝୁଙ୍କେ।
Madhab taps softly with a pause between the two sounds. Benu leans closer to hear.
ଧ୍ୱନି / Sound: ହାଲୁକା ଠକ୍… ବିରାମ… ଠକ୍। / A soft tap… pause… tap.
ମାଧବ କକା: ବୋଧେ ଏମିତି।

ଦୃଶ୍ୟ 4 · 38–52 ସେକେଣ୍ଡ / Scene 4 · 38–52 seconds
ବେଣୁ ଆଉ ଠକ୍ କରେନି। ଦୁହେଁ କଳ୍ପିତ କବାଟ ଖୋଲିବାକୁ ଅପେକ୍ଷା କଲାପରି ବସନ୍ତି। ମାଧବ ଗପ ଆରମ୍ଭ କରନ୍ତି।
Benu does not tap again. For a moment they sit as if waiting for the imaginary door to open. Madhab resumes his tale.
ଧ୍ୱନି / Sound: ସାନ ବିରାମ ପରେ ମାଧବଙ୍କ ସ୍ୱର। / Madhab’s voice after a small pause.
ବେଣୁ: ଭିତର ଲୋକ ଶୁଣିଲେ ତ?
Benu: Did the person inside hear?
ମାଧବ କକା: ଶୁଣିଲେ। ଗପଟା ସେଇଠୁ ଆରମ୍ଭ।
Madhab Kaka: They did. That’s where the story begins.
