ସ୍ଥାନ ଓ ସମୟ / Place and time
ପୁରୁଣା ଉପକୂଳ ଓଡ଼ିଶାର ଏକ କାଳ୍ପନିକ ନଦୀଘାଟ। ବୋଇତ, ବସ୍ତ୍ର ବ୍ୟବସାୟ ଓ ଯାତ୍ରା ପ୍ରସ୍ତୁତିର ମୌଳିକ ଗପ। ବାର ବର୍ଷର ମାଳତୀ ହେମା ଓ ରଘୁଙ୍କ ଝିଅ। ଚାଳିଶ ବର୍ଷର ହେମା ବସ୍ତ୍ର ବ୍ୟବସାୟୀ, ଚଉରାଳିଶ ବର୍ଷର ରଘୁ ଯାତ୍ରୀ ବଣିକ। ପଚାଶ ବର୍ଷର ହରି ଅଭିଜ୍ଞ ନାଉରି ଓ ସହକର୍ମୀ। ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦିଷ୍ଟ ସନ, ବନ୍ଦର ବା ନୌପଥ ଧାର୍ଯ୍ୟ ନୁହେଁ। ଏହା ଆଜିର ବାଲିଯାତ୍ରା ମେଳାର ଦୃଶ୍ୟ ନୁହେଁ।
A fictional river landing in preindustrial coastal Odisha. Original stories of a boita, textile trade and preparations for a voyage. Twelve-year-old Malati is Hema and Raghu’s daughter. Hema, 40, is a textile trader; Raghu, 44, a merchant voyager; Hari, 50, an experienced boatman and colleague. No exact year, port or sailing route is specified. These are not scenes from today’s Bali Jatra fair.

ଭାବର ପରିବର୍ତ୍ତନ / The performance turn
ଡାକିବାକୁ ସଂକୋଚ → ଜିନିଷ ବିଷୟରେ ନୁହେଁ ବୋଲି କହିବା → ନିଜ ଇଚ୍ଛା ସିଧା କହିବା → ଶାନ୍ତ ଏକାଠି ବସିବା।

ପୋଷାକ ଓ ଚଳନ / Clothing and movement
ଚୟନିତ ଚିତ୍ରର ପୋଷାକ ରହିବ: ମାଳତୀର ଲମ୍ବା ବେଣୀ, ମାଟିଆ ଲାଲ ଘାଘରା, କ୍ରିମ୍ ବ୍ଲାଉଜ୍ ଓ ସରୁ ହଳଦିଆ କାନ୍ଧ କପଡ଼ା। ହେମାର ନୀଳ ସୂତା ଶାଢ଼ୀରେ ସରୁ ଲାଲ–କ୍ରିମ୍ ଧାର, ଲାଲ ବ୍ଲାଉଜ୍, ତଳ ଖୋସା ଓ ଅଳ୍ପ ଅଳଙ୍କାର। ରଘୁଙ୍କ କ୍ରିମ୍ ଧୋତିର ଲାଲ ଧାର ଓ ବାମ କାନ୍ଧରେ ଗାଢ଼ ଲାଲ ଉତ୍ତରୀୟ। ହରିଙ୍କ ଛୋଟ ନୀଳ କାମ ଧୋତି, ଅଣ୍ଟାରେ ଲାଲ–କ୍ରିମ୍ ଚେକ୍ ଗାମୁଛା ଓ କ୍ରିମ୍ କାନ୍ଧ କପଡ଼ା। କପଡ଼ାର ଖୋସା ଓ ଶେଷ ଧାର ହାତର କାମରେ ଅଟକିବନି। ଏହା ଚିତ୍ରକଳ୍ପ; ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦିଷ୍ଟ ଶତାବ୍ଦୀର ପ୍ରମାଣିତ ପୋଷାକ ନୁହେଁ।
Keep the selected designs: Malati’s long braid, rust wrap skirt, cream blouse and narrow ochre shoulder cloth; Hema’s indigo cotton sari with narrow red/cream borders, plain red blouse, low bun and modest jewellery; Raghu’s cream dhoti with red border and deep-red uttariya over his left shoulder; Hari’s short indigo working dhoti, red/cream checked waist gamucha and cream shoulder cloth. Tucked ends should permit the work. These are illustrated interpretations, not authenticated costumes of a specific century.

ଘାଟର ଭିତର ପଟେ ଚଉଡ଼ା ନିମ୍ନ ବେଞ୍ଚ; ପାଣି ଧାର ନୁହେଁ। ବୋଇତ ଦୃଶ୍ୟ ବାହାରେ ଘାଟରେ ବନ୍ଧା, ପାଲ ଗୁଡ଼ା। ରଘୁଙ୍କ ଏକ ହାଲୁକା ବ୍ୟକ୍ତିଗତ ପୁଟୁଳି। ଶେଷରେ ସେ ବେଞ୍ଚ ପାଖେ ରହେ। ମାଳତୀର ଗୋଟିଏ ବେଣୀ, କାନ୍ଧ କପଡ଼ା ଡାହାଣ କାନ୍ଧରେ; ରଘୁଙ୍କ ଉତ୍ତରୀୟ ବାମ କାନ୍ଧରେ।
A broad low bench on the inland side of the landing, away from the water’s edge. Boat moored off-screen, sail furled. Raghu has one light personal parcel, which ends beside the bench. Malati has one braid and her cloth over her right shoulder; Raghu’s uttariya stays over his left shoulder.

Malati sits on the bench. Raghu picks up his light parcel beside it. She looks up and calls.

Raghu turns towards her with the parcel. Malati gives a small shake of her head.

Malati: No. I don’t need anything.

ଦୃଶ୍ୟ 3 · 24–38 ସେକେଣ୍ଡ / Scene 3 · 24–38 seconds
ମାଳତୀ ଟିକେ ଘୁଞ୍ଚି ନିଜ ପାଖେ ଜାଗା କରେ। ରଘୁ ବୁଝି ପୁଟୁଳି ତଳେ ରଖନ୍ତି।
Malati shifts along the bench, making room beside her. Raghu understands and puts the parcel down.

ରଘୁ ପାଖେ ବସନ୍ତି। ମାଳତୀ ତାଙ୍କୁ ଚାହିଁ ଟିକେ ହସେ। ଦୁହେଁ ଚୁପ୍‌ରେ ରହନ୍ତି; ପୁଟୁଳି ବେଞ୍ଚ ପାଖେ।
Raghu sits beside her. Malati looks at him with a small smile. They stay quiet; the parcel rests beside the bench.
ଧ୍ୱନି / Sound: ଶାନ୍ତ ପାଣି ଓ ଦୂର କାମର ଶବ୍ଦ। ଶେଷରେ କଥା ନାହିଁ। / Quiet water and distant work. No line over the final pause.
