ସ୍ଥାନ ଓ ସମୟ / Place and time
ବର୍ତ୍ତମାନର କୋରାପୁଟ ପାହାଡ଼ ଅଞ୍ଚଳର ଏକ କାଳ୍ପନିକ ଗାଁ। ରେବା ମାଉସୀଙ୍କ ଅଗଣା ଓ ବାରଣ୍ଡା। କୁସୁମ ଓ ମନ୍ଦାର ଦୁଇ ଭଉଣୀଙ୍କ ପିଲା; ରେବା ଦୁହିଁଙ୍କ ମାଉସୀ।
A fictional village in the present-day Koraput hills. Reba Mausi’s courtyard and veranda. Kusum and Mandar are cousins; Reba is aunt to both.

ଭାବର ପରିବର୍ତ୍ତନ / The performance turn

ପୋଷାକ ଓ ଚଳନ / Clothing and movement
କୁସୁମର ଦୁଇ ବେଣୀ, କ୍ରିମ୍ ବ୍ଲାଉଜ୍‌ର ହାତରେ ମାଟିଆ ଲାଲ ଧାର ଓ ମାଟିଆ ଲାଲ ସ୍କର୍ଟର ତଳେ ଦୁଇ ହାଲୁକା ଧାର। ମନ୍ଦାରର ସବୁଜ ସାର୍ଟ, ମାଟିଆ ହଳଦିଆ ହାଫ୍ ପ୍ୟାଣ୍ଟ ଓ ନିଜ ବାମ କାନ୍ଧରେ କ୍ରିମ୍ କପଡ଼ା। ସାଧାରଣ ଚପଲ। ଏଗୁଡ଼ିକ ଏହି କାଳ୍ପନିକ ପିଲାଙ୍କ ପୋଷାକ, କୌଣସି ସମୁଦାୟର ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦିଷ୍ଟ ସଜ ନୁହେଁ।
Kusum keeps two plaits, cream blouse with rust sleeve bands, and rust skirt with two pale hem bands. Mandar wears a green shirt, ochre shorts and a cream cloth on his anatomical left shoulder. Ordinary sandals. These are the fictional children’s clothes, not a prescribed community costume.

ପ୍ରତି ଦୃଶ୍ୟରେ ମେଳ / Continuity between shots
ସନ୍ଧ୍ୟା ପୂର୍ବର ତଳ ସୂର୍ଯ୍ୟ ଏକେ ଦିଗରେ। ଚିକୁ ଛୋଟ ରହିବ; ଛାଇ ବଡ଼ ହେବ। ଏହା ମନ୍ଦାରର କଳ୍ପନା, ବଡ଼ ପଶୁ ନୁହେଁ।
Low late-afternoon sunlight stays in one direction. Chiku remains small while its shadow stretches. The grand animal is Mandar’s fancy, not a real larger creature.

ଦୃଶ୍ୟ 1 · 0–12 ସେକେଣ୍ଡ / Scene 1 · 0–12 seconds
କାନ୍ଥ ଉପରେ ଚିକୁ ବସେ। ତା’ ଲାଞ୍ଜର ଲମ୍ବା ଛାଇ ପାଖ କାନ୍ଥରେ ପଡ଼େ। ମନ୍ଦାର ପ୍ରଥମେ ଛାଇ ଦେଖେ।
Chiku sits on a wall. Its tail casts a long shadow onto the adjacent wall. Mandar sees the shadow first.
ଧ୍ୱନି / Sound: ହାଲୁକା ପତ୍ର। / Light leaves.
ମନ୍ଦାର: ଏତେ ବଡ଼ ଲାଞ୍ଜ!
Mandar: What a huge tail!

ଦୃଶ୍ୟ 2 · 12–24 ସେକେଣ୍ଡ / Scene 2 · 12–24 seconds
କୁସୁମ ଉପରକୁ ଚାହେଁ। ମନ୍ଦାର ତା’ ଦୃଷ୍ଟିକୁ ଅନୁସରଣ କରି ଛୋଟ ଚିକୁକୁ ଦେଖେ।
Kusum looks up. Mandar follows her gaze to the small squirrel.
ଧ୍ୱନି / Sound: ଚିକୁର ହାଲୁକା ପାଦ ଶବ୍ଦ। / Light squirrel steps.
କୁସୁମ: ଉପରେ କିଏ ଅଛି ଦେଖ।
Kusum: Look who’s up there.

ଦୃଶ୍ୟ 3 · 24–38 ସେକେଣ୍ଡ / Scene 3 · 24–38 seconds
ମନ୍ଦାର ନିଜ ଛାଇ ପାଖେ ଠିଆ ହୁଏ। ହାତ ଉଠାଇଲେ ଛାଇର ହାତ ବଡ଼ ଦିଶେ। ସେ ଚାଲିବାର ଭଙ୍ଗୀ ବଦଳାଏ।
Mandar stands beside his own shadow. His raised hand looks large on the wall. He changes his walk.
ଧ୍ୱନି / Sound: ଦୁଇ ଧୀର ଚପଲ ଟପ୍। / Two slow sandal taps.
ମନ୍ଦାର: ମୁଁ ବି ବଡ଼ ହୋଇଗଲି!
Mandar: I’ve grown too!

ଦୃଶ୍ୟ 4 · 38–52 ସେକେଣ୍ଡ / Scene 4 · 38–52 seconds
ମନ୍ଦାର ଲମ୍ବା ପାଦ ପକାଏ; କୁସୁମ ତା’ ପାଖେ ନିଜ ଛାଇ ଯୋଡ଼େ। ଚିକୁ ନିଜ ବାଟେ ଡାଳକୁ ଯାଏ।
Mandar takes long steps; Kusum adds her own shadow beside his. Chiku goes on towards a branch.
ଧ୍ୱନି / Sound: ହସ ଓ ପତ୍ର ହଲିବାର ଶବ୍ଦ। / Laughter and moving leaves.
