Nilu–Chaiti — Room for One More Six-panel story · Odia and English · 15 October 2026 During a shower, Nilu and Chaiti keep adjusting their dry corner to include a puppy and bird—until Nilu's foot becomes a pillow. SETTING An everyday home veranda: warm ochre plaster wall, red-oxide floor, clay-tile eave, rainy courtyard beyond. A plain woven straw mat and one low wooden stool. No specific named place or craft claim. PANEL 1 — A dry corner Wide establishing view Chaiti finishes unrolling a small straw mat on the veranda near the rain line. Nilu crouches beside it. Puppy approaches from the courtyard; the little bird waits on the low stool near the exposed edge. Chaiti: Let’s sit here. It’s dry! PANEL 2 — Something is still outside Low medium view The puppy places its two front paws on the mat, but its hind paws remain beyond the shelter line on wet floor. Nilu notices and points low with a relaxed hand. Chaiti turns to look. Nilu: But what about those back paws? PANEL 3 — A small adjustment Medium wide view Chaiti and Nilu grip the back corners of the mat and slide it farther into the dry veranda. The puppy steps after it under the eave. Show one mat, hands visibly gripping corners, no duplicate limbs. The bird's stool stays at the rain edge. Chaiti: A little farther in! PANEL 4 — One more friend Medium close view The bird is still on the low stool at the rain edge, a couple of drops falling beside its folded wings. Nilu, now by the dry mat, notices and turns toward it. Chaiti follows his gaze. Puppy is dry beside their feet. Nilu: There’s one more! PANEL 5 — A perch beside the mat Medium wide view Chaiti has moved the same low stool into the dry veranda beside the mat and sets it down. The bird has hopped onto its top. Nilu sits cross-legged on the mat, and the puppy is beside him. Chaiti's open palm offers space without holding the bird. Chaiti: Here’s a spot for you. PANEL 6 — An unexpected pillow Warm close group view Everyone is dry. Both children sit on the mat. The puppy lies comfortably with its cream chin resting across Nilu's sandalled foot. Nilu glances down with a surprised amused smile; Chaiti grins. The small bird stays on the low stool beside them. Rain continues outside. Nilu: My foot is a pillow now!
