ସ୍ଥାନ ଓ ସମୟ / Place and time
ପୁରୁଣା ଉପକୂଳ ଓଡ଼ିଶାର ଏକ କାଳ୍ପନିକ ନଦୀଘାଟ। ବୋଇତ, ବସ୍ତ୍ର ବ୍ୟବସାୟ ଓ ଯାତ୍ରା ପ୍ରସ୍ତୁତିର ମୌଳିକ ଗପ। ବାର ବର୍ଷର ମାଳତୀ ହେମା ଓ ରଘୁଙ୍କ ଝିଅ। ଚାଳିଶ ବର୍ଷର ହେମା ବସ୍ତ୍ର ବ୍ୟବସାୟୀ, ଚଉରାଳିଶ ବର୍ଷର ରଘୁ ଯାତ୍ରୀ ବଣିକ। ପଚାଶ ବର୍ଷର ହରି ଅଭିଜ୍ଞ ନାଉରି ଓ ସହକର୍ମୀ। ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦିଷ୍ଟ ସନ, ବନ୍ଦର ବା ନୌପଥ ଧାର୍ଯ୍ୟ ନୁହେଁ। ଏହା ଆଜିର ବାଲିଯାତ୍ରା ମେଳାର ଦୃଶ୍ୟ ନୁହେଁ।
A fictional river landing in preindustrial coastal Odisha. Original stories of a boita, textile trade and preparations for a voyage. Twelve-year-old Malati is Hema and Raghu’s daughter. Hema, 40, is a textile trader; Raghu, 44, a merchant voyager; Hari, 50, an experienced boatman and colleague. No exact year, port or sailing route is specified. These are not scenes from today’s Bali Jatra fair.

ଭାବର ପରିବର୍ତ୍ତନ / The performance turn
ଝିଅକୁ ଖୁସି କରିବାର ଇଚ୍ଛା → ଅନିଶ୍ଚିତ ଦିନକୁ ନିଶ୍ଚିତ ନକରିବା → ଫେରିବାବେଳର ଛୋଟ କଥା ଭାଗ କରିବା।

ପୋଷାକ ଓ ଚଳନ / Clothing and movement
ଚୟନିତ ଚିତ୍ରର ପୋଷାକ ରହିବ: ମାଳତୀର ଲମ୍ବା ବେଣୀ, ମାଟିଆ ଲାଲ ଘାଘରା, କ୍ରିମ୍ ବ୍ଲାଉଜ୍ ଓ ସରୁ ହଳଦିଆ କାନ୍ଧ କପଡ଼ା। ହେମାର ନୀଳ ସୂତା ଶାଢ଼ୀରେ ସରୁ ଲାଲ–କ୍ରିମ୍ ଧାର, ଲାଲ ବ୍ଲାଉଜ୍, ତଳ ଖୋସା ଓ ଅଳ୍ପ ଅଳଙ୍କାର। ରଘୁଙ୍କ କ୍ରିମ୍ ଧୋତିର ଲାଲ ଧାର ଓ ବାମ କାନ୍ଧରେ ଗାଢ଼ ଲାଲ ଉତ୍ତରୀୟ। ହରିଙ୍କ ଛୋଟ ନୀଳ କାମ ଧୋତି, ଅଣ୍ଟାରେ ଲାଲ–କ୍ରିମ୍ ଚେକ୍ ଗାମୁଛା ଓ କ୍ରିମ୍ କାନ୍ଧ କପଡ଼ା। କପଡ଼ାର ଖୋସା ଓ ଶେଷ ଧାର ହାତର କାମରେ ଅଟକିବନି। ଏହା ଚିତ୍ରକଳ୍ପ; ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦିଷ୍ଟ ଶତାବ୍ଦୀର ପ୍ରମାଣିତ ପୋଷାକ ନୁହେଁ।
Keep the selected designs: Malati’s long braid, rust wrap skirt, cream blouse and narrow ochre shoulder cloth; Hema’s indigo cotton sari with narrow red/cream borders, plain red blouse, low bun and modest jewellery; Raghu’s cream dhoti with red border and deep-red uttariya over his left shoulder; Hari’s short indigo working dhoti, red/cream checked waist gamucha and cream shoulder cloth. Tucked ends should permit the work. These are illustrated interpretations, not authenticated costumes of a specific century.

ଯାତ୍ରା ଆରମ୍ଭ ପୂର୍ବର କଥା। କ୍ୟାଲେଣ୍ଡର୍, ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦିଷ୍ଟ ତାରିଖ ବା ନୌପଥ ନାହିଁ। ଅନିଶ୍ଚିତତାକୁ ଭୟଙ୍କର ବିପଦ ଦୃଶ୍ୟରେ ବଦଳାଇବା ନାହିଁ।

Raghu arranges his parcel. Malati sits nearby, looking at him.
ଧ୍ୱନି / Sound: କପଡ଼ା ଘଷା। / Cloth rustling.
ମାଳତୀ: ବାପା, କେବେ ଫେରିବ?
Malati: Bapa, when will you return?

ଦୃଶ୍ୟ 2 · 12–24 ସେକେଣ୍ଡ / Scene 2 · 12–24 seconds
ରଘୁ ଉତ୍ତର ଆରମ୍ଭ କରି ଥାମନ୍ତି। ପୁଟୁଳି ରଖି ଝିଅ ଆଡ଼କୁ ବୁଲନ୍ତି।
Raghu begins an answer, then pauses. He puts down the parcel and turns towards her.
ଧ୍ୱନି / Sound: କପଡ଼ାର ଶବ୍ଦ ଥାମେ। / The rustling stops.
ରଘୁ ସାଧବ: ଶୀଘ୍ର… ଠିକ୍ ଦିନଟା ଏବେ କହିପାରିବିନି।
Raghu Sadhaba: Soon… I can’t tell you the exact day yet.

ଦୃଶ୍ୟ 3 · 24–40 ସେକେଣ୍ଡ / Scene 3 · 24–40 seconds
ସେ ଶାନ୍ତ ଭାବେ କହନ୍ତି। ମାଳତୀ ମୁଣ୍ଡ ଟିକେ ତଳକୁ କରି ପୁଣି ତାଙ୍କୁ ଚାହେଁ।
He speaks gently. Malati lowers her head a little, then looks back at him.
ଧ୍ୱନି / Sound: ଦୂର ପାଣିର ଶବ୍ଦ। / Distant water.
ରଘୁ ସାଧବ: କାମ ଓ ପବନ ଉପରେ ବି ନିର୍ଭର କରେ। ଦିନ ଗଣି କହିଦେଲେ ଭୁଲ୍ ହୋଇପାରେ।
Raghu Sadhaba: It depends on the work and the wind too. I might be wrong if I gave you a number of days.

ଦୃଶ୍ୟ 4 · 40–56 ସେକେଣ୍ଡ / Scene 4 · 40–56 seconds
ରଘୁ ହାତ ଖୋଲି ଝିଅର କଥା ପାଇଁ ଅପେକ୍ଷା କରନ୍ତି। ମାଳତୀ ଟିକେ ହସେ।
Raghu opens his hands and waits for her answer. Malati gives a small smile.
ଧ୍ୱନି / Sound: ଛୋଟ ବିରାମ, ହାଲୁକା ହସ। / A pause and a small laugh.
ରଘୁ ସାଧବ: ଫେରିଲେ ଆଗେ ତୋ କଥା ଶୁଣିବି।
Raghu Sadhaba: When I’m back, I’ll listen to your stories first.
ମାଳତୀ: ବହୁତ ହୋଇଯାଇଥିବ।
