ସ୍ଥାନ ଓ ସମୟ / Place and time
ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଲୋକକଥାର ଗାଁବାଟ ଓ ବାଟୋଇଙ୍କ ବିଶ୍ରାମ ସ୍ଥାନ। ଅବୋଲକରା ଓ ତାଙ୍କ ଜ୍ଞାନୀ ମାଲିକଙ୍କ ଚରିତ୍ର ପାରମ୍ପରିକ; ଏହି ପର୍ବର ଘଟଣା ଓ ସଂଳାପ ଏହି ପ୍ରକଳ୍ପର ନୂଆ ରଚନା। କୌଣସି ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦିଷ୍ଟ ଲେଖକଙ୍କ ଗପର ଅନୁବାଦ ନୁହେଁ। ସାଆନ୍ତ ଏଠାରେ ସମ୍ବୋଧନ, ବ୍ୟକ୍ତିଗତ ନାମ ନୁହେଁ। ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦିଷ୍ଟ ଶତାବ୍ଦୀ, ଗାଁ, ଜାତି ବା ଅବୋଲକରାର ବୟସ ଧାର୍ଯ୍ୟ ହୋଇନାହିଁ।
Village paths and travellers’ resting places in a folktale Odisha. Abolakara and his learned master are traditional figures; the events and dialogue of this episode are newly written for this project, not a translation of a particular author’s story. Saanta is a form of address here, not a personal name. No exact century, village, caste or age for Abolakara is assigned.

ଭାବର ପରିବର୍ତ୍ତନ / The performance turn

ପୋଷାକ ଓ ଚଳନ / Clothing and movement
ପୂର୍ବ ଚରିତ୍ର ଅଧ୍ୟୟନ ସହ ମେଳ: ଅବୋଲକରାର ସରୁ ଦେହ, ଅସଜଡ଼ା କେଶ, ସାଧା ହଳଦିଆ ଛୋଟ ହାତର ଜାମା, ଆଣ୍ଠୁ ପାଖେ ଖୋସା କ୍ରିମ୍ ଧୋତି, ଡାହାଣ କାନ୍ଧରେ ନୀଳ କପଡ଼ା ଓ ଚପଲ। ସାଆନ୍ତଙ୍କ ପାଚିଆ ପତଳା କେଶ, ଛୋଟ ନିଶ, କ୍ରିମ୍ ଜାମା, ଲମ୍ବା ଧୋତି ଓ ବାମ କାନ୍ଧରେ ସରୁ ଧାରର ଚାଦର। ବସିବାବେଳେ ଧୋତିର କୁଞ୍ଚ ବଦଳିବ; କାନ୍ଧର ପଟ ବଦଳିବନି। ଗୋଟିଏ ପୁଟୁଳି, ଗୋଟିଏ ଆସନ ଓ ଗୋଟିଏ ବାଉଁଶ ବେଣ୍ଟର ଛତା। ପୋଷାକ ଏହି ପ୍ରକଳ୍ପର ବ୍ୟାଖ୍ୟା; ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦିଷ୍ଟ କାଳର ପ୍ରମାଣିତ ପୁନର୍ନିର୍ମାଣ ନୁହେଁ।
Continue the earlier character study: lean, unruly-haired Abolakara in a plain ochre short-sleeved top, cream dhoti tucked near the knees, blue cloth over his anatomical right shoulder and sandals. Saanta has thinning grey hair, a small moustache, a cream short-sleeved top, long dhoti and a narrow-bordered cloth over his anatomical left shoulder. Seated folds change; shoulder sides do not. One bundle, one mat and one bamboo-handled umbrella. These are project interpretations, not authenticated reconstructions of a particular period.

ପ୍ରତି ଦୃଶ୍ୟରେ ମେଳ / Continuity between shots
ଦୁହେଁ ଛାଇରେ ବସି ରହିବେ; କୁମ୍ଭାର, ପିଲା, ହାଣ୍ଡି ବା ଗଧ ଚିତ୍ରରେ ଆସିବେନି। ସାଆନ୍ତଙ୍କ ହାତର ଭଙ୍ଗୀ ଓ ମୁହଁରେ ଗପ ରହିବ। ଏକ ପୁଟୁଳି, ଏକ ଖୋଲା ଆସନ ଓ ଏକ ବନ୍ଦ ଛତା ସ୍ଥିର ଜାଗାରେ।
Both remain seated in shade. Do not draw the potter, child, pot or donkey. The tale lives in Saanta’s gestures and expressions. One bundle, one unrolled mat and one closed umbrella remain in fixed places.

ଦୃଶ୍ୟ 1 · 0–16 ସେକେଣ୍ଡ / Scene 1 · 0–16 seconds
ଅବୋଲକରା ବାମରେ, ସାଆନ୍ତ ଡାହାଣରେ ଗଛଛାଇରେ ବସିଛନ୍ତି। ସାଆନ୍ତ ଦୁଇ ହାତରେ ଗୋଟିଏ ହାଣ୍ଡିର ଆକାର ଦେଖାନ୍ତି।
Abolakara sits at left and Saanta at right beneath a tree. Saanta shapes an imaginary pot with his two hands.
ଧ୍ୱନି / Sound: ପତ୍ରର ହାଲୁକା ଶବ୍ଦ; ଗପର କଣ୍ଠ ସ୍ପଷ୍ଟ। / Light leaves; clear storytelling.
ସାଆନ୍ତ: କୁମ୍ଭାର ଭାବିଲା, ହାଣ୍ଡିଟା ଫାଟିଛି। ପାଣି ଭରିଲେ ତଳୁ ବାହାରିଯାଉଛି।
Saanta: The potter thought his pot was cracked. Whenever he filled it, water ran out below.

ଦୃଶ୍ୟ 2 · 16–28 ସେକେଣ୍ଡ / Scene 2 · 16–28 seconds
ସାଆନ୍ତ ଗୋଟିଏ ହାତରେ ଗପ ଆଗେଇନିଅନ୍ତି। ଅବୋଲକରା ମୁଣ୍ଡ କାତ କରି ତାକେ।
Saanta carries the tale forward with one hand. Abolakara tilts his head.
ଧ୍ୱନି / Sound: କଥା ମଝିରେ ଥମକ। / A hitch in the narration.
ସାଆନ୍ତ: ତା’ପରେ ଗଧଟା ଆସି—
Saanta: Then the donkey came along—
ଅବୋଲକରା: ଗଧ? ହାଣ୍ଡି ପାଖକୁ?
Abolakara: A donkey? To the pot?

ଦୃଶ୍ୟ 3 · 28–42 ସେକେଣ୍ଡ / Scene 3 · 28–42 seconds
ସାଆନ୍ତ ହାତ ଥାମନ୍ତି, ଉପରକୁ ଚାହିଁ ମନେପକାନ୍ତି, ତା’ପରେ ନିଜେ ହସନ୍ତି। ଅବୋଲକରା ହସ ଚାପିରଖେନି।
Saanta stops, glances up to remember, then laughs at himself. Abolakara lets his smile show.
ଧ୍ୱନି / Sound: ଦୁହିଁଙ୍କ ଛୋଟ ହସ। / A short shared laugh.
ସାଆନ୍ତ: ଆରେ, ସେ ଆଉ ଗୋଟେ ଗପରେ! ଏଠି ତ ଛୋଟ ପିଲାଟିଏ ଥିଲା।
Saanta: Oh, that belongs to another story! There was a small child in this one.

ଦୃଶ୍ୟ 4 · 42–58 ସେକେଣ୍ଡ / Scene 4 · 42–58 seconds
ସାଆନ୍ତ ହାତରେ ଅଦୃଶ୍ୟ ଢାଳିବା ପାତ୍ର ଟିକେ କାତ କରି ଦେଖାନ୍ତି। ଅବୋଲକରା ତାଙ୍କ ହାତକୁ ଚାହେଁ।
Saanta tilts an imaginary pouring vessel with one hand. Abolakara follows the gesture.
ଧ୍ୱନି / Sound: ହସ ଶାନ୍ତ ହୁଏ; ଶେଷ କଥା ପାଇଁ ବିରାମ। / The laughter settles; a pause for the ending.
ସାଆନ୍ତ: ପିଲାଟି କହିଲା, “ହାଣ୍ଡି ଫାଟିନି। ତୁମେ ବାହାରେ ଢାଳୁଛ!”
Saanta: The child said, “The pot isn’t cracked. You’re pouring outside it!”
ଅବୋଲକରା: ଆଜି ତୁମ ଗପ ବି ଟିକେ ବାହାରେ ପଡ଼ିଲା।
Abolakara: Your story spilled a little outside today too.
